A new program in Prince George's County, Md., is aimed at better preparing disadvantaged students for higher education by having them take courses at a community college beginning in ninth grade. Students in the "middle college" program will first take courses taught by high-school teachers before beginning college-level work by the time they are in 11th grade, with students earning college credits and a high-school diploma concurrently.
