The United Nations will increase the presence of peacekeepers in western Cote d'Ivoire with the addition of eight new bases in a bid to increase security ahead of legislative elections scheduled for October, says Choi Young-jin, head of the local UN mission. Tens of thousands of people in the region remain displaced as a result of violence that erupted after former President Laurent Gbagbo refused to recognize results of a November presidential poll.
