Veterinarians in Alabama report an increase in the number of owners who microchip their companion animals. One organization, Pets Are Worth Saving (PAWS), has been promoting chipping animals since tornadoes that ripped through the area last April displaced many animals that have yet to be reunited with their owners. About 130 animals have been microchipped during a promotion from PAWS and local pet-supply stores.
