The Air Transport Association is representing airlines in a lawsuit over the European Union's Emissions Trading Scheme. The U.S. government has joined Australia, China, United Arab Emirates and Canada in protesting it as a violation of international law. In addition, the U.S. House is considering a bill that is receiving bipartisan support: The bill would make it illegal for U.S. airlines to participate in the emissions scheme. "What we don't want to do is stunt the growth, or cap the growth, of the aviation industry, because the aviation industry drives global economies," said ATA spokesman Steve Lott.
