By 2016, fewer than two out of every 10 computers will still run on Microsoft's Windows operating system, as more users transition to the cloud, says Paul Maritz, CEO of VMware. Maritz says that under this model, desktop computers as we know them will become obsolete, to be replaced by a variety of devices that rely on cloud access. In this "post-document" future, Maritz says, information will be delivered in smaller increments.
