More beaches and resorts have become dog friendly in recent years, and canines can have fun in the sun as long as owners take a few precautions and keep an eye out for dangers. Owners should educate themselves on the rules of the hotel or resort before they go and, once there, be on the lookout for signs that the dog has consumed too much saltwater -- salt poisoning and water intoxication are the biggest threats for dogs at the beach, says veterinarian Tina Wismer.
