The Department of Energy on Monday announced the distribution of $12.4 million in research grants to projects that are developing safer and more efficient oil and natural gas drilling methods. The grants will go to 11 research projects, five of which are located in Texas. "As a whole, information gained from the shale projects will further DOE's effort to quantify the risks of environmental impacts from unconventional natural gas development," according to the department.
