Groupon wants to track the location of users of its mobile application even when they aren't using the app. In response to a letter by two U.S. congressmen who inquired about Groupon's privacy and tracking plans, Groupon general counsel David Schellhase said location data must be collected in a timely manner so relevant offers can be pushed to the app. "Location information would need to be collected about the user just before noon, even if the Groupon mobile application is not running on the device at that time," Schellhase said.
