Incontinence in dogs can be caused by several physical conditions but is most often associated with a dysfunctional urethra that can develop as dogs age, writes veterinarian Brad Green. Less common causes of the condition, which involves involuntary leaking of urine and is different from inappropriate urination, include neurological dysfunction and cancer of the urethra or bladder.
