Aviation suppliers and subcontractors in the Wichita, Kan., area and beyond are taking steps to deal with increased workloads as commercial-aircraft manufacturers add planes and bolster delivery rates. "The supply chain is strained," said Charles Champion, executive vice president for engineering at Airbus. "It will be even more strained by us, by Boeing, by Embraer and by Bombardier.... That's going to be a challenge." Some have raised concerns that the situation may overwhelm suppliers, but others say they are prepared to take on the increased workload.
