A school laptop program in Farmington, N.M., is costing the district more than expected because of unpaid fees by students to repair damaged laptops. The district currently is owed more than $150,000 from students and parents, who may not be able to afford costs incurred since the laptop program began three years ago. This year, the district is raising laptop-insurance fees to $35 from $25 to keep repair costs and fines at $100 or below.
