Career satisfaction is generally highest in specialties where the hours are not exceedingly long, according to a study of data on 6,381 physicians in 41 specialties published in the Archives of Internal Medicine. Specialists who logged the fewest hours -- and had the highest rates of job satisfaction -- included pediatricians, dermatologists, and child and adolescent psychiatrists. Lead author J. Paul Leigh said such rankings can help medical students plan their careers.
