The transition to IPv6-based Web addresses has become a major issue for carriers because of their increasing interest in machine-to-machine technology, according to an Infonetics Research report. "With IPv4 addresses running out in some places in the world by 2012, and as many as 15 billion M2M devices expected to be connected to the Internet by 2015 ... IPv6 migration has become a front-and-center issue for carriers," Infonetics principal analyst Michael Howard said.
