U.S. banks bolstered the amount of loans backed by the Small Business Administration in 2010, but the 25 banks with the most deposits actually reined in such lending. The top 25 banks underwrote $3.6 billion in 7(a), or SBA general-business, loans, or just more than 20%. These same financial institutions held a significantly larger share of such loans in 2006.
