Hearings on the development of West Virginia's portion of the Marcellus Shale have drawn nearly 500 people, said Tim Manchin, co-chairman of the state's Joint Select Committee on Marcellus Shale. "The comments have been extremely insightful and intelligent," Manchin said. The panel is tasked with crafting legislation to modify the state's drilling policies to account for new shale extraction methods.
