The Federal Communications Commission ordered Universal Service Administrative Co., the agency that administers e-Rate, to offer certain technology equipment to 2010 applicants at an 80% discount. The decision clears the way for more than 1,300 school districts that applied for the funding in 2010 to possibly receive millions in funding for high-speed Internet equipment. The FCC also instructed the agency to carry a $850 million reserve fund into 2011 to provide discounts to even more applicants.
