Illinois' recent decision to eliminate writing from standardized tests doesn't have to mean the subject is cut from classrooms as well, says National Board Certified Teacher Amy Orvis. She tells of the importance of writing and suggests educators use this opportunity to get creative with writing instruction. Rather than being boxed into teaching students to write for tests, teachers and students are now free to explore writing for pleasure and creativity, she says.
