Better research is needed to support the decision-making process for stopping life-support for traumatic brain injury patients, say Canadian researchers, who found many deaths result from ending support, often within three days of ICU admission, which they said could be too early for accurate neuroprognostication. The report in the Canadian Medical Association Journal also found wide variation in life-support withdrawal rates for the six trauma centers in the study.
