At the American Psychological Association's annual meeting in Washington, a 7-year-old border collie stole the show as her owner spoke about new research that demonstrated many breeds possess the intellectual capacity to learn thousands of nouns and verbs and perform appropriate actions given only verbal commands. The study adds to a growing body of research on canine intelligence, including a June paper in the online journal Learning & Behavior that demonstrates that dogs can interpret body language and behavior.
