Dermatologists are increasingly turning to Facebook to keep their patients apprised of practice news, events, specials and medical news. "I don't see a downside," said dermatologist Patricia K. Farris. "Patients will come in and tell us what they saw on our Facebook page." Doctors should be careful not to violate patient privacy by declining to post patient-specific information, answer patient-specific questions or post pictures that show patients, and staff should monitor comments on Facebook pages, says Dr. Kevin Pho, who uses social media extensively in his practice.
