Students more likely were to improve their test scores when taught by teachers who participated in a certain professional-development program than students whose teachers did not undergo the training, according to a recent study. "This study shows dramatically, clearly, when you implement a [teacher] measure rigorously and couple it closely to a PD system, you get dramatic improvements in student achievement," said Robert C. Pianta, a professor at the University of Virginia.
