A majority of New Yorkers in a Quinnipiac University survey believe that drilling in the state's portion of the Marcellus Shale will generate jobs. Most respondents also want the state to impose a new tax on drillers. "Drill for the jobs, New Yorkers say, even though they're worried about the environmental effects of [hydraulic fracturing]," said Maurice Carroll, director of the university's Polling Institute.
