AOL is hoping some of its Patch hyperlocal websites will edge into profitability by year-end, but if things go badly askew, CEO Tim Armstrong said, sites could easily be spun off. About 130 more sites are projected for launch by year-end, and Armstrong said major companies have approached AOL about advertising on Patch. But AOL will "be rational" about its options, he said.
