Digital textbooks are no more able to help students learn on their own than print textbooks are, according to eSchool editor Dennis Pierce. Despite little scientific data to prove the value of technology in the classroom, anecdotal reports suggest that technology in the hands of quality teachers using sound practices leads to improved student achievement. Pierce suggests that researchers turn their focus to studying ways use technology as a cost-effective resource for improving education.
