Many education experts say accountability measures such as No Child Left Behind are perpetuating an educational system in which students who are gifted are likely to be overlooked. Teachers increasingly are differentiating instruction for students of all abilities, but some say it is frequently not used with the brightest students. Advocates for gifted education say the success of students who are gifted is linked to the country's success as a whole, and are calling for more opportunities and programs to serve top students, particularly minorities and those in low-income and urban areas.
