Many cancers take a similar path in humans and canines, and veterinary research on dogs can lead to new treatments for people. Aggressive brain tumors called gliomas affect humans and dogs, and existing drugs typically don't work for long, but a new method of treatment in which chemotherapy is injected directly into the tumor has worked on dogs and will soon be tested on humans, says University of California-Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital veterinary specialist Peter Dickinson.
