Intermodal rail shipments by CSX and Norfolk Southern at the Georgia Ports Authority rose 21% in 2011, representing a 191% increase over 10 years. Rail intermodal has accounted for about 18% of GPA business for the past five years. "With Georgia Ports able to serve 80% of the nation's population via rail, improving our transportation network not only supports tomorrow's commerce, it acts as a catalyst to propel the state's economy forward," said Curtis Foltz, Georgia Ports Authority executive director.
