Since the early 1990s, the number of antibiotics prescribed to children aged 14 and younger dropped 10%, with the largest declines in antibiotic prescriptions for colds and sore throats, a CDC study found. Antibiotics do not work against viruses, and public health officials have been working with doctors to prescribe antibiotics more judiciously.
