BAE Systems has developed an infrared "invisibility cloak" that can be used to disguise tanks as cows. The vehicles are covered in a material that can change its temperature on demand, allowing operators to "print" the tank's surface with a signature that looks like an innocuous object. "The tank skin essentially becomes a big infra red TV," says BAE communications chief Mike Sweeney. "You can display anything you want on it -- including a cow -- while the rest of the vehicle blends into the background."
