Obese employees were almost twice as likely as their leaner counterparts to have high levels of work absenteeism and they have medical costs that are 42% higher, experts said at a Business Health Summit in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Establishing workplace wellness programs and other lower-cost options, such as promoting an active lifestyle and healthy eating, may help address weight issues and health-related costs among obese employees, experts said.
