Lower Manhattan is stepping toward recovery as the One World Trade Center building takes shape and residential towers emerge in the downtown's skyline. Residents say the "cement fortress" design of the former twin towers made the neighborhood bleak, but the overhaul will integrate the site into the downtown area's community. The area "feels like one of the happiest and most rejuvenated places in the city," one resident said.
