A new charter middle school in New York City encourages students to take ownership of their schooling and allows students to move through the curriculum at their own pace according to their own academic goals. The school, Innovate Manhattan, is based on a Swedish model focusing on the idea that all students learn differently. "It helps them learn why they can want an education and how to have control over an education," the school's principal Eileen Coppola said.
