Pets age faster than humans, which means illnesses crop up earlier and can get serious relatively quickly, so veterinarian Michael Watts recommends annual senior screening for pets based on AVMA's guidelines. Screening includes blood tests, radiographs and urinalysis, among others. Dr. Watts emphasizes that test recommendations may vary based on individual circumstances, but that in all cases, early detection leads to a longer, healthier life for pets.
