Trustees of the University of Massachusetts gave their OK to a plan that calls for $3.1 billion in construction projects. The projects include $157 million for science labs and $179 million for student housing in Amherst, plus $350 million for a research center at its medical school in Worcester, among other work. The school still carries debt from previous projects, but it has significantly grown its endowment over the past 15 years.
