Hurricane Irene led to more flight cancellations and lower on-time performance from U.S. carriers last August, the Department of Transportation reports. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics reports that 16 airlines posted a 79.3% overall on-time performance rate in August, compared with 81.7% from the same period last year. Carriers posted cancellations for 2.5% of scheduled domestic flights, up from 1% of flights last year.
