The American Petroleum Institute raised concerns about the U.S. Forest Service's plan to impose a horizontal-drilling ban in Virginia's George Washington National Forest. "API's concern is underscored by the fact that no ban on horizontal drilling was sought for the neighboring Jefferson National Forest ... which also sits atop substantial Marcellus shale resources," said Erik Milito, upstream director at API. Such a ban would also contradict the federal government's development policy for shale natural gas, Milito added.
