Automatic enrollment of new employees in 401(k) plans has resulted in higher participation rates, but it hasn't erased savings-rate disparities among racial and ethnic groups, a Vanguard study found. Though participation in the plans is up for all ethnic groups, even adjusting for income, white and Asian workers' savings rates are 0.5 to 2 percentage points above those of Hispanics and blacks, the report found.
