Patients who had bariatric surgery for weight loss reduced their 10-year risk of heart disease from about 6% to 4%, according to Cleveland Clinic researchers who looked at data from 52 studies involving a total of 16,867 people. The report in the American Journal of Cardiology showed 68% of patients saw improvements in blood pressure, and one study found risk of death from heart attack was cut in half.
