The image of bikers as young rebels on motorcycles has given way to the reality of middle-aged men with solid incomes on two wheels. According to Harley-Davidson, the average income of its customers is $85,000 a year, a figure that puts them solidly in the consumer middle class. And the average age was 43 as of 2008, up from 24 in the 1980s.
