In-depth interviews of 28 colorectal cancer patients found erectile dysfunction after surgery caused profound distress for men and that most did not get adequate information or treatment for the common side effect, researchers reported in BMJ online. The U.K. research team said health care providers were dismissive and made offensive age-related assumptions about sexual activity. The researchers suggested a tailored and coordinated approach is needed for these patients.
