Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine researchers are working on a diagnostic test for chronic wasting disease that identifies lower numbers of prions and can detect them in living animals, making it superior to currently available tests. "[I]t may lead to a substantial gain in our understanding of how prions spread, survive in natural habitats, and impact animal and public health," said Dr. Ed Hoover, a CSU veterinarian and infectious disease researcher.
