Dr. Kenneth McCormick, a pediatric endocrinologist and senior scientist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Comprehensive Diabetes Center has presented parents with three options to help children with diabetes control their blood glucose levels during Halloween without feeling deprived. McCormick said parents may count the carbohydrate content in treats, trade sweets for other goodies such as gifts, or save the Halloween treats for dessert after dinner.
