Eating more trans fat during the second trimester of pregnancy is associated with larger newborns, according to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Although the impact of trans fat on fetal growth remains unclear, it is considered a health risk, said lead researcher Juliana Cohen. The findings were based on the diets of almost 1,400 women who gave birth between 1999 and 2002 in the Boston area.
