Climate changes in Europe between 1500 and 1800 were linked to events such as wars, epidemics and famine, according to research by University of Hong Kong geographer David Zhang and his colleagues. One major way that climate change affected humanity was through shifts in agricultural output, the researchers found. However, the research did not extend into the industrial period, and Zhang said it would be difficult to predict what the effect of the world's current warming climate will be.
