There are about 100 illnesses that pets can pass along to people, many of them with symptoms that can go unnoticed at first. This article highlights some of the more common conditions, including roundworms which infect about 14% of Americans. In addition, tick-borne diseases such as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever post dangers to people and pets, says AVMA's Lynne White-Shim.
