Officials in Los Angeles are drafting a new social media policy for schools that no longer bans the use of such sites. The district acknowledges the potential for social media to engage students and disseminate information quickly, but some are unsure how to balance those benefits with the potential dangers. "Social networking has been a nightmare for me and is usually brought to my attention for negative reasons," said Debra Jelin, an assistant middle-school principal.
