Officials in St. Cloud, Minn., are considering lengthening the district's school day, which is among the shortest in the state. Students in St. Cloud spend an average of 359 minutes receiving instruction, while the state average is 393. Officials say a longer school day could help improve student achievement, as it did at one school that lengthened instructional time by 15 minutes last year.
