Women aged 55 years and older who were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes within three months prior to cancer screening were about 30% more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer than those who do not have the disease, Canadian experts reported in Diabetes Care. Researchers speculate that a diabetes diagnosis leads to more medical visits and testing, thereby increasing the chances of discovering other issues. "We're really early on in understanding this relationship," one researcher said.
