Stanford University researchers came up with a carbon nanotube-based, transparent skin-like sensor that can measure forces applied to the material's surface. "This sensor can register pressure ranging from a firm pinch between your thumb and forefinger to twice the pressure exerted by an elephant standing on one foot" without becoming deformed, said one researcher. The technology could be useful for applications in robotics, touchscreens and prosthetics.
