A round of distance-based fare drops launched on Tuesday by Southwest Airlines and subsidiary AirTrans had met competition from nearly all major U.S. airlines by Wednesday morning. Delta, JetBlue, United and Virgin Airlines rolled out their own line of sales to match Southwest's offerings, which reach as low as $35 for one-way flights of 450 miles or less.
